Stock markets around the world are broadly flat Wednesday as investors pause for breath following a rollercoaster start to 2019.
After a three week rally permeated by days of sharp falls, stocks — particularly in Asia — are becalmed Wednesday, with no major Chinese index moving in excess of 0.1% on the day. In Europe things are a little more exciting, although most indexes are nursing losses no bigger than 0.5%
The pause in stocks comes after a start to the week which saw both the IMF cut global growth forecasts, and a denied report that the US had cancelled a fresh set of trade talks with China scheduled for the end of January.
