Democratic leaders said Wednesday that President Biden’s giant infrastructure and social spending packages could be just a couple of days away from winning approval.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said lawmakers are “making good progress” and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said “it’s very possible” warring moderates and progressives could reach a deal by the end of the week.
“We can get it done,” Schumer said.
The newfound optimism came after Biden personally got involved in the talks to nudge progressives towards a deal by signaling he is open to cutting his signature $3.5 trillion Build Back Better Act nearly in half.
