Lawmakers back automakers on gas mileage standards

Three members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee are urging government regulators to give automakers more time to respond to a July report that will help to shape fuel economy and greenhouse gas regulations over the next 10 years.

Automakers are arguing to modify, delay or extend the current corporate average fuel economy standards that get increasingly more difficult to meet from 2022 through 2025 and want more time to comment on a report issued by the government in July.
